Some Turkish women making delicious bread! |
It's during this month that the city highlights all of our amazing ethnic restaurants around town. Dishes range anywhere from 1 to 10 dollars.
I recommend going at night as it gets really hot during the day. There is shade, but again, it's still hot. This event happens Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Two of my friends tried something new today....
One had the Vietnamese drink known as BOBA which is delish and the other tried a French CREPE for the first time in his life....nutella and banana. Oh yeah....
Of course if you like meat, there's plenty of it as these manly men grill it all up below. At random moments, you'll see things like the above pic happen.
There's a bit of everthing here at this event. If you're a vegan, you'll find it. If you love meat, you'll find it. But most of all, it's a great way for our city to come together and enjoy all that it has to offer.
It's downtown in the El Presidio park and spread out over the area. There are credit card machines, but cash is easier to use. Here's a hint. I brought quarters and change with me this year because everyone is always tossing out a 20, but I thought I could get rid of some of the change in my jar and at the same time make the vendors smile because they run out of singles and coins rather quickly.
There are other things beyond food like dance, ethnic stands, veggie stands, honey stands. But sometimes you may get distracted by corn on the grill or tamales....
There are plenty of parking spaces available. If you can't find a space to park on the street, you can find parking areas that will cost around 5 bucks.
We had a great time eating our way through the park and it's one of my favorite annual events. I wasn't able to make the Greek Festival this year so this event more than makes up for it. I hate Gallo Pinto from Costa Rica, Boba from Vietnam, Pancit from the Philippines, and Kimbap from Korea. Tomorrow, I'll focus on a unique grain that comes from Peru.
This happy customer is trying a Nutella and Banana Crepe for the first time. "Mikey likes it!!!" If you have gone or go next year, try something new. There's a lot to love about being outside in our beautiful city. Tucson has a lot to offer.
I adore crepes...any kind. We once had a big splurge on these banana and Nutella crepes....absolutely to die for! This looked like a fantastic event.
