White Throated Sparrow

Sparrows.  The bane of my existence.  They are so difficult to ID, but thankfully this little guy had all the right markings in all the right places:)
Easy to ID.  Not a common fellow around these parts but one that is welcome, the White Throated Sparrow does indeed have a white throat and yellow lores(fancy term for some yellow splash around the eyes).
Another first bird for Las Aventuras as we watched this bird dig around the dirt at Sweetwater wetlands near the bridge.
If you live in Tucson or are visiting, remember to look near the entrance by the bridge for all the little birds.  They like to hang out in the bushes and along the stream. It's where I've spotted many of my warblers and sparrows.  Cute little sparrow and one that doesn't take an expert eye to figure out.  My kind of bird:)  More tomorrow....
White Throated Sparrow

  1. I was struggling with a sparrow ID yesterday. I'd say chipping but it didn't have white over the dark eye stripe with a solid gray throat and breast. Didn't look like a gray rump either. Dang sparrows.

  2. The black stripes on its head and yellow eyebrows make it a cute little Sparrow indeed, and one so different than the Sparrows I know.
    Good find!!

    Have a nice weekend:)

  3. I'm not great id'ing birds at all. Enjoy watching them tough.

  7. Your close-ups are great and show up all the beautiful markings and colourings of this sparrow.

  8. One of my favorite spots in Tucson, the Sweetwater Bridge! Nice shots of a tiny rare beauty. Thanks for sharing him, Chris.

  9. Smart little Sparrow that Chris :-)

  10. Beautiful little sparrow, Chris. They are hard to identify for sure ---as are the Warblers.... You got some great pictures of this one though.

  11. Such a pretty little sparrow and so distinctive with the yellow.

I also enjoyed the lovely photos on the previous post with all that beautiful light.

Reading through older posts I was so pleased to see you have a mobile/cell phone now, it will make you so much safer on your adventures :-)

  12. Sparrows don't get much better than this! great shots Chris!

  13. Żółte piórka na głowie bardzo ozdabiają ptaszki. Pozdrawiam.
Yellow feathers on the head of a decorated birds. Yours.

  14. Lots of white-throated sparrows overwinter here. The song makes identifying them easy too. They usually sing here the whole winter (subsong).

  15. Well - even seeing your photos is a first for me!! But a virtual tick doesn't count, does it?!?!

    1. That's a great point:) I thought it would be fun to do bird via blogger. It would count under the Birding Virtual Tick. Wouldn't that be a great idea?? It would only count for that category....hence the virtual part. Just think how much we'd work for each other to get those birds on our list:)

  16. The perfect sparrow to present for the holidays with his white throat!

  17. Sweet little sparrow! I'll have to look for it!

  18. I have mixed feelings about the sparrows. They are Gods sweet creatures but make a oinky piggy mess at the feeder.

  19. Pretty litte sparrow Chris with lovely markings :)

Thanks for stopping by!
