Catalina Island

Avalon, Catalina Island

I found some more pics from several other places that are truly amazing to visit in California.  Another trip one can take is out of Dana Point in Southern California to the Catalina Island.  Spend a day or two in the city of Avalon....

Keep your eyes open on the waters to catch some amazing sights of marine life!!

Did you know these guys glowed green in the dark because of a bioluminescent plankton?

Our vessel for the day

My friend Kristen....what an amazing day!!

We practiced putting sails up and down off the coast.

About the plants....thick succulent juicy plants grow around the cliffs similiar to the ice plant. These are plants that can tolerate the salty air, wind, and sandy(or rocky conditions).  These plants do well in Tucson, but only in planters and also protected from our winter frosts. They need plenty of sun:) See example below..

To make many of these beautiful plants....snip an end off and stick it in the dirt...that's how easy they grow:) Happy Adventures!!

Tucson Botanical Gardens...I've never been, so it will be nice to see pics of the place as you continue to volunteer there.

  3. Catalina is one of my favorite places ever! When I married my husband his parents owned a big fishing a recreation ship. Starting when the kids were about 4 and 5 we would spend a week in Avalon. They would anchor there ship in the bay and Mom and Dad Suter would spend the nights on the ship while the three brothers, us wifes and 5 grandkids stayed in this awesome condo. Every evening I would march the kids down the street to have ice cream. Every morning we would wake up early to go lay our towels on the beach to reserve our spot. We would sleep in for a few more hours then go out to the beach. Other great things we did were watching movies at the casino, playing miniature golf and riding those silly golf carts all over. What a great place. When the kids were in there teens we had to stop going. My father in law's disease called PLS was so bad he could no longer get on the ship. I would like to go back again. Maybe this summer.
