The Letter "S"

I thought I'd have some fun here. A random post.  Actually a lot of folders with pics of unused shots.  So I thought I'd have some fun with the theme.  Okay.  First.  Several of you asked how my "Supermoon" shots turned out.  I said that I failed, but really I got a great shot of the moon.....just not of the canyon below it.  I think I've figured out the trick after doing the shoot with the Solar eclipse.  In any case, this is from the Supermoon evening back in early May at Saguaro East National Park.  If I had gotten the canyon in the shot, this pic would have been posted sooner:)
Lately it seems that I have been encountering all kinds of Snakes.  Not that I want to as they give me the heebie jeebies.  I was birding near some water and these two "little" darling Common Kingsnakes swam into view.  I have to be honest, this pic and being so close creeped me out.  I DO NOT like snakes at all. They were mating/going after a certain Pied Billed Grebe near the reeds.
This bird was quite expressive and showing signs of "anxiety".  I picked up on that feeling and watched the area closely.  It moved quickly out of the way as these 2 huge snakes came out of the reeds!!!!  They were a little too close to me and so I moved back.....they followed.   If you do find this snake in our desert, don't worry.  It's not poisonness. Did you know they eat rattlesnakes?  It was a strange night because this all happened during our Solar Eclipse.
The final pic below is the one that I like the most from this series of snapshots.  Why?  It's the dragonfly on the branch that makes this shot magical for me.
So there you have it. Snakes, Supermoon, Solar eclipse.  More tomorrow......

  1. yes they are beautiful especially the first photo of the snake. If it was me, i will not be able to get a good focus of the moving snakes, and with the head so nicely on top of the water. great!

  4. Not much for snakes myself but find them fascinating to watch, as I'm sure these were in a creepy sort of way.

Your eclipse shot is Awesome because of the dragonfly.

  5. I feel like Gaelyn. I don't want to live with a snake but they are so fascinating. And the dragonfly? So perfect. I love it.

  6. That shot with the dragonfly is magical indeed. Did you know the dragonfly was there when you were taking the shot, or did you only see it later on the computer?

    1. Hello there:) I knew it would be in the picture but I didn't know it would turn out. The sun was the bigger concern as I didn't want to burn my sensor:)

  7. Love the dragonfly shot Chris and a great theme for a post. To be honest if I lived in an area with rattlesnakes I don't think I would be overkeen on snakes either!

  8. Love the shots of the moon, eclipse and the bird.
I'm not much for snakes either. I'm glad we only have 2
sorts of snakes here, one poisonness and one not.
Wish you a wonderful weekend, Chris.

  11. The dragonfly shot is charming. I think the birds are interesting but I'm with you on the snakes. I know they're helpful but they're a little too slithery for me!
