Big Screen TV for Cats

Okay okay.  I can't help it.  Some mornings as I sit and write my posts before my day begins, I see this adorable display of whiskers and ears.  We live with 5 rescued cats.  Each unique and into nature as much as I am:)
You see outside the dining room window we have several hundred visits from birds all day long.  They are mostly House Finches and Mourning Doves, but they certainly attract the attention of our feline friends:)
In fact, it's quite the popular spot around the house.  3 birds for 3 cats?  Sometimes all the cats will be hanging out together which is quite popular.  So it got me thinking.  A lot of us have pets and a lot of us are busy people with jobs, etc, etc.  I'm not always home, but I do enjoy providing some entertainment for our cats while we're out.  In fact, when we moved into our home awhile back, big windows were essential for not only us, but for our cats as well.   The "TV" for our cats would begin.
First, I established the garden that wasn't there.  Nada. Zip. Zilch.  Once the oasis was established, I attracted the birds with feeders etc.  Today it's a wildlife zone for many birds and provides countless hours of catnaps and excitement for the cats.  Like any entertainment center, you have to have some great furniture around the window.  Half our dining room table is covered with a blanket where they can lay down and watch the show.  They wait for us in the morning to wake up and open the window.  There are also kitty beds near the table for all 5 of the cats.
Not only do I laugh at the bird antics outside but I also smile at how the cats will actively watch them fly near the window.
And you never know who is going to drop by and visit.  That's the best part!!!
And when you can't watch anymore, you hang out with a buddy and take a catnap.

Have you created a "TV" for your pets?  If so, where? Just another way to bring nature...indoors:)   More tomorrow....

  1. Your cats are lovely. MORE KITTIES PLZ! My cat (also a rescue) isn't allowed to roam outside as she's on a very strict diet to control kidney problems. She spends some time most days birdwatching out of the window. I've heard that another good cat TV is a large (and very sturdy and impenetrable) tropical fish tank :)

  3. Good morning from sunny South Florida! It is 6:50am here. Just wanted to tell you how cute your kitties are hanging out at the entertainment TV area!!! Wonderful for them to have such excitement all day!!!

My cat is inside sleeping all day on thebed, but is a super trooper ranger all night outside!!!

My dog, though, is entertained by butterflies, moving leaves, and squirrels running along the fence with sightings outside the back sliding door. She is impaired due to her height...only about 11 inches tall!!! (Chihuahua). It is a lot of fun watching her with the few things she can actually observe from outside!!!

  6. Watching the cats watch the birds is almost as good as bird watching.

  8. Oh, this wonderful post brought a big smile to my face. How lucky that your cats are able to watch the nature channel all day long! One of our dogs relaxes on a decorative pillow situated the couch which is located near a large window. She rests her head on the top of the couch cushion and keeps her eyes on the squirrels, chipmunks, deer, raccoons and birds. She doesn't try to interact with the birds but the squirrels, raccoons and deer are another story. We have lots of paw and nose prints on our "big screen tv". Delightful post!

  9. At least it keeps them off the streets...buying drugs on the corners. :) I'm sure they spend hours everyday entertained while you're out and about. Do they make funny little sounds while watching? I only have a dog, but she loves looking out the sliding glass door. She loves most of the birds, but has been known to chase of grackles.

    1. OMG....that is hilarious!! Well and it's true as well:) Those poor kitties on the street. We have 3 or 4 feral cats outside that have been with us for several years and they lead a pretty difficult life. The neighbors kind of protect them and they like to lay in our shade here at El Presidio. And they do make that funny little "chirp" sound:) Meh meh meh meeeeeh:)

    1. Thanks Suz:) It is true.....put a post about cats and everyone goes crazy. There a commercial on the radio right now that says the secret to making your blog successful is by having pictures of cats. I started laughing on the way to the pet groomer today at that one. The kitties get a summer haircut which cuts down on the amount of hair in our place. And I love your comment about the farmer's breakfast:) Some of the best breakfast in the world!!! I'm still trying to shed that 10 pounds I gained:) Now as for the kitties....I think it's the fur that gives them their "fuller" girlish figures;)

  15. This exactly what goes on in my house as well. First thing in the morning I open the patio door so the cats can sit in front of their cat-screen TV. Free entertainment, and because the cats can't get outside to chase away (or kill) the birds the show goes on all day, every day :)

  16. You are so diligent in posting, i can't cope with you, haha! We have lots of cats too and they are so lovable especially when kittens play with their tails or their mothers. We always watch them, and they want to play with anything moving.
