If only it were so simple,
to cruise through life smelling roses;
but the obstacles blacken the countryside,
and we unwittingly crush them beneath our boots.
Dreams sustain us through the madness;
goals give a finish line to our race.
Yet they change with every turn, around every wall,
and remain elusive throughout the quest.
Mistakes are made, and regrets are our luggage;
we will drag them with us to slow us down.
The victories are flashes of light, sudden and unlasting, which allow us
to glimpse the road ahead before darkness descends.
Love is bitter, yet it is the bread that keeps us.
Over and over it fills us up, only to starve us.
The people whom we love shape our destinies and our strengths,
yet leave us cold and alone in the darkness.
There are others trying to race to the end;
occasionally, we bump into one or two.
The bonds we form help us down the path less lonely
but eventually, we lose each other in the darkness.
Alone is not a bad way to be;
it clears your head and focuses you on the journey.
Cherish the short intervals during the quest you have with others,
but be prepared to walk alone in the darkness.

Qué contraluces mas bellos.. La verdad que eso lugares desérticos dan para fotos muy bonitas.. Enhorabuena y un saludo..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images and a lovely thought-provoking poem.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteLove the prose. It is perfect with your gorgeous shots!
ReplyDeleteA lot of truth but also a little bit depressing.
ReplyDelete"Mistakes are made, and regrets are our luggage;

I don't believe in this: we are who we are today because we were who we were and lived yesterday...
I miss all these wonderful sunsets...
oh my
ReplyDeleteI don't know what to say
except that I wish for Christiana
a sunny day soon
great photos
ReplyDeletewow. a very powerful post. some days i feel exactly like this, trying to find direction, light, faith in myself, faith in others...
ReplyDeleteHeavy poem... The pictures are awesomely beautiful, that's what the poem is missing. I mean look at that sky, the colours, the blends, contrasts, there is magic in that sky!!!! I am in LOVE with the second picture, who decides the sky should be that colour on that night? Someone who wants to enchant those who will look, that's who :)
ReplyDeleteLots to think about in these words, beautifully illustrated by the photos.
ReplyDeleteI am comfortable alone with my thoughts - most of the time. To me alone does not mean lonely. :)
Moody images... Moody prose... Touching!
ReplyDeleteWow those are very thought provoking words, and the photos are perfectly matched.
ReplyDeleteChris, your photos came out beautifully! Love the accompanying poem!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteSuch a poignant poem...and gorgeous photos! Love both so much!
ReplyDeleteHey there Marie, I don't think I got your email but I would love to meet up with you. rohrerbot@yahoo.com
DeleteI'd put my phone number up but I have young eyes that read this blog and would love to prank my house:)
Very sobering words.... Love/Life/Relationships are ALL hard at times... My best girlfriend has done some things to really upset me recently---although it has taken me awhile to see this... If the truth be told,she is truly not a real friend... I have this 'trust everyone' feeling inside of me --and even though, I've seen this coming, I don't think I was willing to deal with it or admit it until recently. A real friend listens and is there for us --and doesn't say one thing to me and something else entirely to someone else. It hurts --but she is not a friend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, Chris. Hope you have had a wonderful week.
Hugs
Betsy
I'm so sorry Betsy. That is a difficult one to understand. I, like you, try to see the best in everyone but there are times that try. This post was created during a difficult this month and it has since gotten better.....as I hope it will for you.
DeleteI has been busy for me here and it seems I can't keep up with blogger. There's too much going on and the weekends are FULL. So I hope you keep busy with George:) Big hug to you.
That's a very nice presentation, Chris! The words go perfectly with the photos and vice versa. You have been in a very thoughtful place lately. So, yes, about the 4th. Magpie and I were just talking about it. I am not sure if we will be able to make that particular day - it being a Sunday and me having work the next day. It does sound like so much fun, and I know we had both good intentions before we got jobs. :-) But I do know we want to meet you soon! I will talk to her next time and see if between all of us we can get a day ironed out. Won't that be fun!? Be good to yourself! xxoo
ReplyDeletePS Magpie and I met Kathy right before she moved from AZ to Texas. Wouldn't you know she left shortly after!
Hola:) I do understand. That job thing is something, isn't it?:) I'd love to get together with you guys. It would be lots of fun. Maybe I can go up to Phoenix....but only in the cool months....January and February. Everything else is too hot:)
DeleteStunning images for these poignant words Chris. I definitely believe though that its not always a bad thing to spend periods of our lives alone, it's why it's so important to first love ourselves.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Chris! Your pictures are amazing.
