Summer's Eve

One last big hurrah for the monsoon.  As September nears the end so does the monsoon season....officially.  During this hike storm clouds quickly built up around me.  And all of it during sunset.
These pics were taken from downtown Tucson along the Santa Cruz wash.
When I look at an Arizona sky, I many times lose myself within the clouds.
This year for me, it's a happy/sad thing.  I'm glad the heat is going away but I'll also miss all the summer visitors we get during our hot days.   But I won't miss the mosquito bites.
Juvenile Hummer
This has been a spectacular year for butterflies.  September is the high month for all of these beautiful insects.
I'll continue my Chuparosa challenge into next year or whenever a new species presents themselves again.   And it could be here or elsewhere in the Americas through travel.
So for now, I'm enjoying visits from the butterflies around our gardens here at El Presidio.  And I think I'm ready for October:)

PS.  Sorry if you thought I'd talk about the female product known as Summer's Eve.  We won't do that here at Las Aventuras.  That deserves its own blog:) I'll be back again today reading everyone's blogs.  I was with Kathie birding yesterday with some of the most epic finds and we had a blast.  Unfortuneatly I didn't get home until late and therefore wasn't able to get any blogging done.  More tomorrow...

  1. I cannot cope with your posts, i've just seen one and another is erupting, haha! Your clouds look like ours too, but during our dry months. This time our sunsets are not as beautiful. That butterfly is lovely, but it is black, OMEN!

  6. Those monsoon sunset clouds are spectacular. I'm a little jealous of you and Kathie going birding and butterflying. But I sure love the images and stories.

  7. With their massive size and shapes, and especially their vivid colouring, I can easily understand why earlier people thought storm clouds were being created and controlled by mythical powers and personalities :)

  8. Sunset sky is always made more spectacular by the clouds formation. In the first image, I feel clouds are building up and up toward me. I haven’t seen humming bird in person. The bird with flowers is fabulous. It was hot and humid today for the middle of September, however, I felt cool breeze in the shade. There are many signs of autumn, and there’s something sad and lonely at the end of summer though I hate the sultry weather. Have happy days ahead toward autumn.

  9. Awesome clouds! They build so beautifully here. It's good to appreciate what is good about where we live...no matter where that is. I love that you embrace all that is this Arizona desert.

  10. Beautiful clouds and great captures on those hummingbirds too.

After a lot of rain over the weekend, we're looking at a dry spell.

  11. You cloud photos are spectacular! The sky is so magical if we only take time as you have to enjoy it. We had some beautiful clouds the last few weeks with thunderstorms in the mountains, we didn't get rain, but mother nature gave us a wonderful show.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.

  14. I remember build-up clouds like that...a few years ago! But what you say on the creatures leaving after the monsoon season departs...I hear you. Right now, the hummers are still frolicking about...even seeing broadbill hummers, which I've barely seen up here much.

  24. I am sure that the photos I took the other day of the incredible clouds at dusk were taken on exactly the same day. I haven't posted them yet. Also, yes, I've see LOTS of butterflies recently, but haven't been fortunate enough to capture any with my camera. I am wondering if Kathie is the same Kathie that used to live here and I think recently moved back???!!! I follow her blog, and had emailed her to ask about the move, but she hasn't responded. I would love to meet her! And you as well. Perhaps the opportunity will arise.

    1. Marie, that would be a lot of fun. I usually go to Sweetwater on the weekends either early in the morning or later towards the evening like around 5. It has been an exciting summer of finds and I'm up for a trip there:) There's always something just waiting to be captured on film:) Let me know when you guys are ready to battle the cooler temps and I can meet up with you all wherever. We've got lots of great places here to check out. It's always fun meeting other bloggers. It's all about the experiences and lots of fun. I'm about to get going on blogger tonight. Just finished editing more pics! Never ending.
