  5. Hello again! Just brilliant captures, I never tire of seeing feeding activity like this especially when it’s a group of the same species and then birds are small. We’ve been seeing the tiny siskins do this in my garden. However they have been shadowed by Osprey chat in my last blog – do you see Ospreys with you?

  6. Wonderful pictures Chris. Interesting to see the plumage difference between your Lesser Goldfinch and our Goldfinch. Its amazing how quickly they find thistle seed. Although in our garden they now prefer sunflower hearts. Goldfinches these days seems the most numerous birds on our feeders which is lovely :) Have a great weekend!

  12. I look forward to the next exciting episode. I must say, though, it cannot help these birds' self esteem to be called lesser goldfinches. No wonder they are so aggro - where are the greater goldfinches anyway?

  14. They are so beautiful, love the colors as they flash.

We might have had one or two of them come through, but we don't get flocks.

  17. What great pictures, one of my recent blogs was about a flock of Greenfinches that came to visit and ate everything. From Findlay

  19. Too funny, we hung one of these sock-like feeders up this year and had to throw it away because it went untouched for months! We thought the makers of the feeder were morons - wrong! I guess we have more finicky finches over here, they tend to eat our oiled sunflower seeds instead :) I'm glad your finches appreciate your efforts. Great group shots :)

  23. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog...I just looked at a number of your posts and am so impressed with your wonderful photography! Love this post of the goldfinches. I am not the best photographer, but do what I can. Most of my bird shots are in my yard, and tend to be less than great. I also am gardening, and thought perhaps we could share some ideas in that regard. I notice a lot of your shots don't LOOK like Tucson (especially that AMAZING owl header!) and I see mentions of Ramsey Canyon. Not sure where that is...but I'm pretty sure I want to go! It's beautiful! Again, thanks for visiting me. I'm glad someone told you that I am another Tucson blogger. Have a great week!

    1. Marie, what a nice surprise this morning! There is another blogger from Tucson known as Diane. She's in the Sabino Canyon area. Her blogs are called Desert Colors and Simply This.

You are correct although I do feature things from my garden and the Tucson Botanical gardens where I docent. I would love to chat with you about gardening. It's one of my favorite topics. I'm in charge of our landscaping here. Right now I'm working on a bamboo side planter and getting a fountain into our courtyard. It's really exciting stuff. But I do love to hike and travel all over Southern Arizona. The owl header is from up on Miller Canyon as I've been doing a hummingbird challenge this summer.

As for pictures, they're fun but it's really all about the stories and experiences we get from taking them.....that has been the most fun for me. And I read a bunch of your posts today and enjoyed your Tucson view. I love this town. I can't wait to get to know you better. Tomorrow I'm meeting up with a fellow blogger and doing some birding tomorrow. It has been a blast meeting people. Hope you are enjoying the weekends....and cooler temps!!! This morning I left our screen door open:) Bring on the fall!

  24. Busy, busy there Chris. I have a theory that the number of Goldfinches in a garden multiplies x 10 for each feeder put up. Try it and let us know.

  25. I always put a thistle sock out when we're up north, but not down here in the Valley. Maybe I should give it a try.
