Barn Swallow |
On a personal note, I am working on two stories....lightening strikes around Tucson and the Plain Capped Starthroat Hummingbird. By the time most of you are reading this in the US, I'll be up and in a canyon waiting....and waiting:) It's a tricky shoot so we'll try this again. I've already done it once and I keep reading the birder notes for the trek. I am hoping to complete these two stories for an August release, but I am dealing with massive heat issues and the ever present and dangerous flooding issues around the canyons areas. A couple days ago, I sat filming a lightening storm off in the distance.....and I got nothing! Frustrating:) But when it happens, if it happens, I'll hopefully be able to present something interesting for people to enjoy:) I do have a job but I'm on vacation now so I'm trying to fit as much in as I can. More tomorrow...
Adoro las golondrinas!!!.. Aquí son el inicio de la primavera.. Muchas gracias por tu comentario.. Un abrazo desde la calurosa España
ReplyDeleteLove the Barn Swallow photos Chris - such a wonderful symbol of summer. Good luck in your search for lightning strikes and the Plain Capped Starthroat Hummingbird. Take care with the heat and floods and enjoy your vacation.
ReplyDeleteAha, a bird with which I am familiar - don't usually get those on your blog! Our Barn Swallows look a little different though, as they are of a different subspecies. Lovely pics. Good luck with the lightning!
ReplyDeleteLove these little guys.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of the swallows Chris. I have never managed any really good ones. You found a good place for them!
ReplyDeleteLove the last hummer post, such lovely photos of your special little gems.
I didn't think it would happen and then...out of the blue, there they were:)
DeleteI'm trying to get more of these beauties and while I see lots of them, I'm not finding the ones I need:) BUT I'm certainly finding lots of other incredible things that I'll get to share. Pretty exciting stuff out there.
Hello! Very beautiful photos! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteVery good pics of the barn swallows. They are a very pretty bird. For the last two years they have built a nest over the light fixture leading into our laundry room. They really swoop down ant you.
ReplyDeletelove those guys
ReplyDeletehope your trip is successful
be careful
Thanks Suz. I'll write about this at a later time, but I saw a drug run this morning. I hate illegal activity and drugs! It was a scary moment but thankfully there were several birders in the area. I really hate this part about our borders. The drugs crossing are the most dangerous. Unbelievable.
DeleteWonderful pictures of this charming little bird! I hope your trek goes well. Look forward to hearing about it. Be safe.
ReplyDeleteAh, the dangerous life of a part-time nature photographer! Reading your blog is almost like reading a copy of National Geographic. It's so much fun!
ReplyDeleteWell Tracy, today really felt like a National Geographic special. No hummer, but I filmed a dung beetle and witnessed Turkey Vultures in action....awesome stuff. Sometimes I just want to publish it all right away....but I have other cool things coming up. I love Arizona....so much here to see.
DeleteA lovely bird.......good luck with the lightening. I keep thinking of building a detector to trigger the camera.
ReplyDeletestay safe! love these sweet swallows.
ReplyDeleteLovely Swallows, I absolutely adore them.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the barn swallows.
ReplyDeleteThe only way I've gotten lucky photographing lightning is by video, then pull out some frames.
Have fun in the canyons. I'm off to Point Sublime today.
Hope you're having fun!
DeleteThose swallows are so colourful; great pics, they never sit still for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking this was a freak act of nature. I was doubtful for many months that I would ever get close but I was able to photograph the Tree and Barn Swallows remarkably close. It was a great surprise:)
DeleteAwesome that you got such close shots! These beautiful birds move too much for their own good and sometimes make it hard to appreciate them!
ReplyDeleteI was doubtful but I remember you writing at one point that at some point, I'd get them on camera:) But it's when you least expect it!:) There's been a lot of that going on lately with the birds....it's been really nice. I got my first Hooded Oriole here. Beauty! Hope you're getting some nice birding in:)
DeleteThese are very nice photographed.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Joop
Hi Chris, Hope you get the lightning strike story and also the hummingbird story you are interested in.... Photography can be so much fun --but can be frustrating at times also.
ReplyDeleteLast night, there was a Mama Deer and FOUR babies in the lot next door to us... I took about 10-15 pictures of them---but guess what? NONE of them came out. They were all blurry... I must have had the camera on the wrong settings. Dang it!!!!! SO DISAPPOINTED.... Hopefully, they will come back soon. Such is life I guess!!!!
Have fun on your vacation--but stay SAFE.
Hugs,
Betsy
Thanks Betsy. I feel your pain.....I really really do. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me....except without my memory card!!! I have a habit of leaving the card inside my computer and not putting it back. Hopefully they'll reschedule for another photo shoot. The key with deer is that they do have a routine so you might be able to get them again around the same time. I sat at my Grandmother's house the last time and observed her deer schedule observations. Almost right on time every night.
DeleteAs for safe, I am thankful that there were several birders in the area. There was a drug run this morning on my way to the canyon and I was alone. I kept walking but it scared me to death. After everyone ran quickly and the driver sped off, I went uphill and hid behind some bushes until I saw a group of birders. I hate drugs and I hate the border issues here. It's a deadly zone at times. But everything is fine and the photo shoots are incredible from today's observations. Can't wait to share.
One of our bike rides recently took us across a bridge that obviously has swallows nesting below. They came out in droves!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the one flapping its wings.
That's such a lovely bird! Great captures. Fingers crossed you get both the stories you've working so hard on at the moment. Sounds like rather hard work in the heat though.
ReplyDeleteDefinately fun shots, and very pretty. It looks like those birdies are posing for you.
ReplyDeleteSpent the week with a business associate from Pheonix, I had no idea how bad the border issues are getting there. It's a shame with the resources we have that this is even an issue.
L love the barn swallows Chris, and even more it surprises me where they make their nests, in the most unlikely places!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you're fortunate to have them pose for you! And you captured them nicely!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for a visit to Biosphere 2 now!! What 'still exists' there?
ReplyDeleteHi Brenda! I have a post on Biosphere 2 tomorrow. There are some really great wildlife around the structures...and that's where I had the most amount of fun. Just wish it had been a tad cooler:) I had begun to see stars the heat was so bad:)
Deleteterrific barn swallow shots! beautiful colors!
ReplyDeletewill be looking forward to your stories...can't wait to see & hear about the lightning strikes!!
be safe out there....
There's a bridge over the canal where I walk sometimes and at certain times of the year, there are swallows nesting there. They all fly out to greet me and fly circles around my head checking me out. It's so cool!
