Here An(d) Gone

The Great Blue Heron in flight
Blogger friends Magpie and Tracy made me curious about Herons.  And while I had already found a Great Blue Heron for the year, I wasn't expecting to find a Heron Rookery(nesting area) in Tucson.  Today's pic series focuses on my hunt for the Great Blue Heron and their rookery.  You'll see those pics soon.  But here are my captures of this magnificent bird in flight around the nests.

The Heron did a circle around the nests and eventually landed back into the area.  More tomorrow...

  1. Fantastic flight shots of your Heron... it's very similar to our Grey Heron over here.

  2. Beautiful. While I was out to that riparian park in Gilbert a couple of weeks ago, I looked east at a white 'something' that looked like this sitting by the water. In the time it took to lift up my camera, it was gone.

  12. Chris, these are amazing shots. Aren't they the most graceful fliers? I love the long stretch they do on landing.
