Hibiscus Flower?

No this not a hibiscus flower.  But it sure looks like one.  This pic was taken from the Whiskey Barrel cacti collection at El Presidio in April.  A variety of Opuntia known as the Engelmann Prickly Pear.  This cactus is cool with or without the flower.  I love the long needles and purple hue of the pad.

    wow cactus sometimes amaze me with their flowers! this one is especially beautiful.

    Wow! That's a new one for me. The needles are fantastic on that opuntia, but the flower steals the show.

    That is a stunning flower. I wonder how hardy this particular Opuntia is...The eastern prickly pear (Opuntia humifusa)makes a great, problem-free garden plant even here in Michigan.
